I have created a 44 page booklet which teaches five of the AQA Power and Conflict poems, with a focus on the theme of power. It covers ‘The Prelude’, ‘Storm on the Island’, ‘Ozymandias’, ‘My Last Duchess’, and ‘London’.
It works in the following sections:
- A section of background reading for each poem, including tasks which build the skills for language paper 1 Q1, Q3 and Q4 (Q2 was a focus in the war poetry booklet, a separate course reader). Then a linked writing task which supports creative writing for P1Q5.
- Pre-reading tasks, which include context videos and watching an animation of the poem for an initial response.
- Reading the poem and a series of tasks including understanding the narrative, exploring key quotations, picking out patterns in language, matching quotations to key images, thinking about the themes of power and conflict, then a final paragraph.

I sell a lot of resources within my CPD sessions, however I am keen to make all of these course readers freely available. Some people have suggested having a donate a coffee option available – so, if you download and use these resources and want to say thank-you in this way, click below:
